Here’s a moodboard for a current logo /branding project I’m working on for Blue Earth Planning, Engineering & Design.
The moodboard is part of the collaborative design process where we select inspirational imagery that represents the mood we are looking to evoke with the brand design. The imagery is not intended to be taken too literally and just helps establish some boundaries within which to focus our creative work.
As the client is a unique values based hydroengineering firm, we’ve focused on drawing our primary inspiration from riparian topography and turtle imagery. Through our detailed discovery process we’ve identified these as our key elements.
Stay tuned for more to come!

A current book illustration project has me doing character design exploration for 30 mental states. I know a lot of folks have been experiencing this one. This is the bottom, let’s work our way up from here. You are not alone.
I read recently some writing from Pema Chödrön that takes a very non western, non theistic point of view that hopelessness is actually the beginning of freedom.
When you let go of the hope that things could have been different than they are, you step into accepting the reality of what is and laying down the great burden of hope that leads to suffering. That is a clear starting point from which to accept what is and from there we can begin to take clear action toward what should be. I know abandoning hope sounds nihilistic and antithetical to traditional, western self help thinking.
But in this context hope is viewed as the other side of the same coin as fear. Coming from a sense of poverty. Something I’m meditating on this week. #art #artist #artistsoninstagram #arte #instaart #illustration #artoftheday #illustratorsoninstagram #illustrationartists
