Raising a chilled can in memory of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our way of life. Let’s honor that with our choices and respect for each other.
The can pattern in this mockup started as a geometric watercolor I did. I then vectorized it and turned it into a pattern. Then I mapped that onto this three dimensional can and superimposed it into a photo I took at Black Balsam. The font used here is Caravan.
This week as part of art class, my 7 year old daughter and I designed a logo for tacos together. 🌮. I wanted to show her how to develop an idea from a little rough scribble to something finished through iteration. 📝. So we started with a little post it sketch then I had her draw a big version of the taco and lettering. I had her do a second version of the lettering, putting down some guidelines first. 🔤. Then I broke out the tracing paper and used her taco and letters as the guide to draw something a little more polished. We talked about characterizing it by giving it a face. She wanted to add the speech bubble. 🎨. Then I showed her how to scan that in and use illustrator to vectorize it and add color layers. 🌈. Here is the finished version with my color pallet choices. She didn’t finish hers yet. 🤷♂️. We learned alot and had fun in the process.

Last year I was tapped to design the holiday card for the Van Winkle Law Firm.
Interestingly, many of the lawyers are also musicians and each year they record a holiday song. One of the requirements of the brief was that a lot of the members of the firm had to be represented. It was also the 50th anniversary of Sgt Peppers. So I pitched the idea of the holiday card being a “record” that played off of the classic album design. It included a printed insert that had download instructions for listening to their collection of holiday tunes.
This was definitely one of my favorite projects from last year.
Got a new pen for my tablet today. Also decided to give Adobe Fresco a try. I’ve been wanting to do some illustrated portraits so this one of @aniliaj was my test run to get a feel for the pen and software. Swipe right for time-lapse.
Here’s a simple straight all American style logo I did a little while back for my mechanic, crane operator and all around good guy Jeff Dover. A little stars and bars monogram for a stellar client and operational partner.
Times are tough right now and so are we. Let’s design a better future.
We got this!
